My M&W pole building shop is my man cave, and a place I use to work on my hotrods and boat, plus store all my important "stuff" !! A friend of mine bought an M&W pole building, and he uses part of it as a hobby room for his wife, where she spends hours doing crafts with the grand kids, the rest of his building is for storing his model A coupe, plus a work shop, and a huge walk in closet for his wife's "can't get rid of these" clothes.
A pole building is a whole lot more building for the money than adding on to the house, or even building a stick built shop. I know ,because I checked it out before i bought my M&W pole building . How are you using your pole building ? Or what would you use it for if you bought one ??... Blog me!!

Hello Dave,
I plan to build a residential pole building in my empty ground ready with all the facility i.e. water, electrical, sower.
However my land is located in the city area/city suburban area.
And I am going to use my future pole building to become my real house to live.
Is there any problem for me to get building permit for this objective?
Can you please tell me any detail of requirements to build residential house in the above location?
Thank you so much for reading my question, and I am looking forward to hear from you soon...
Regards,
Suward.

polebarn house

Suward, we have done pole barn houses in the past. Depending on the county/ city you plan to build in, the planning department could let you know if these are acceptable for your particular site. Keep in mind that there are a lot more requirements for a dwelling, than for a garage or shop, etc. I would recommend first contacting your local building department to find out if this type of construction is allowed for a house in your area. If you get the OK ,then ask for their list of requirements to meet codes. this would give us a guideline how to design your building,so that the final product is acceptable to you and the governing powers. Pole building homes are very versatile, and unique, also economical to build, so if you decide to pursue this farther, be sure to contact us for a bid. Thanks for your interest. Dave.

Will follow your suggestion...

Thank you Dave for your advice.
Let me summarized what I need to do:

  1. Contact my local building department
  2. If it is Ok, get list of requirement to build it
  3. Contact you to get a bid.

Are the above steps correct? Normally base upon your experience how long will it take to complete those steps?
Regard,
Suward.

time frame for building

Suward, the trip to the building dept.to find out if this type building is OK should be an in and out. If you get the go ahead to build a pole barn house, we would need to get together and discuss your design and see how we could incorporate it into a design that we can engineer. Once that is done , engineered plans can usually be generated with in a week or two at the most , then you will take those plans to your local building dept. to apply for a permit.Their time frame for approving the plans could vary from a few days to a few weeks, depends on the county/or city you are dealing with. Depending on if you are buying a 'kit' or having us build your building, delivery of materials could be as soon as 2 weeks after your plans are approved and we have a set of those approved plans and a copy of the permit. Realize that there are a lot of factors to deal with, so specific times could vary. I am looking forward to working with you on this project. Thanks, Dave
